Cool Winchester Needs Partner Organizations!

Does your organization want to:

• Help its members save money?
• Bring members together to participate in a fun, team building activity?
• Help members' families stay healthy?
• Leave a healthier planet for future generations?
• Help showcase Winchester as a leader in reducing our town’s carbon footprint?

If so, join the Cool Winchester campaign today. Recognizing that in a small, non-industrial hamlet like ours, approximately 80-90% of our carbon footprint (our emissions of planet-warming gases) comes from the residential sector, this project aims to help households make lifestyle changes—some small, some large, all voluntary—to heal the planet. And given existing organizations are in a unique position to reach the community, we’re asking for your help.

Built on Mass. Climate Action’s “Low Carbon Living” program (and using the same workbook), teams of up to eight households will meet four times over a month to compare notes on the successes and challenges of making lower carbon lifestyle changes. Changes can be as simple as turning off lights when someone leaves a room, to as ambitious as installing a renewable energy system in their home. The program costs as much or as little as each household chooses, and is likely to save them money on their utility bills.

Initiated by Sustainable Winchester, our goal is to reach 85% of Winchester households over the next three years to reduce their carbon footprint on average 25%. In order to do this though, we need your help. If 34 organizations in Winchester join us in each forming 25 Eco Teams over the next three years, we can accomplish this goal and become part of the climate change solution!
